Third steps - with Edward the Shark

I admire those who write and I look up to those of my friends who have managed to write books. Such friends include Graham Hand, Peter Cerexhe, Peter & Genevieve Milnes and Cavin Brown. Well done guys!

In this blog I'd like to introduce you to Edward the Shark.

This bedtime story was written when my kids were young. They seemed to like it.

I hope you enjoy it and Katie Cerexhe's wonderful illustrations.

I hope your kids sleep well.

Edward the Shark - a children's bedtime story

Written by Hans Kunnen and illustrated by Katie Cerexhe

Edward the shark had very sharp teeth.
He lived in the ocean, out near a reef.

One day he was bored and said to himself,
“I'm going to visit Adam the elf.”

He swam to the beach and got himself dry,
then jumped on a bus which was parked nearby.

“Where shall we go?” the bus driver cried.
“To Adam’s place,” Edward replied.

Off sped the bus, it bounced along
as Edward the shark broke into song.

“This is such fun,” sang Edward with glee.
“I do hope Adam has biscuits and tea.”

The driver stopped at Adam’s house
and there to greet Edward was Peter the mouse.

Peter squeaked, “Come in and play.
We wish you could stay for more than a day.”

Edward went in, not making a sound
but Adam the elf was nowhere around.

Then Adam leapt out from behind a chair,
“Edward my friend, did I give you a scare?”

Edward just laughed and sat himself down,
“Oh Adam,” he said, “you are such a clown.”

They told some jokes and ate some honey,
then Edward said, "My tummy feels funny.”

“Let’s read some books,” said Adam the elf,
“I’ve got hundreds here on my shelf.”

Edward the shark found a book on cars,
while Adam the elf got one on stars.

They looked at the pictures, they read all the words,
but then they decided to play with the birds.

There was Eagle and Sparrow, and Cuckoo and Parrot
and Crow and Magpie who brought them all carrot.

They played and they played until Edward was tired,
then Edward said, “It’s time we retired.”

"What does that mean?” asked Peter the mouse.
“It means it’s time to go back to the house.”

The day was ending, the sun was low,
and Edward the shark said, “It’s time to go.”

Adam the elf said “Goodbye,”
and Peter the mouse began to cry.

“Don’t be sad,” said Edward the shark,
“I’ll be back. We can’t play in the dark!”

The bus came by and Edward climbed in.
He waved goodbye with his black shiny fin.

As the ocean drew near, Edward was yawning.
It was ages since he got up this morning.

When the bus stopped, Edward jumped out.
He ran to the water and splashed all about.

Edward swam off to where the water was deep.
He put down his head and fell fast asleep.

The end.

Second Steps

My 'blog mentor' has encouraged me to get cracking. Thanks Gav.

I have excellent blog examples to draw from 1. The Em & Gav page 2. The Lewis Faimly in Malawi and 3. Hand at the Football.

Somehow the time never seems quite right.

What I need to do is load a few pictures and see where that takes me. But how do I do that?

Hmm. The picures are in but the format is ordinary. So what's with the pictures?

We are going round the world - sort of. We are doing it via restaurants in the local area. So far we have been to Greece and South Africa. Good fun. Good food. We have a bit of a quiz about the country, sample different foods and beer if they have it!

The first post

I'll start properly soon.

Today is a day for recovery - from too much football. Yes such a thing is possible. Australia takes a step forward and the future is bright regardless of Germany 2006. I look forward to Australia playing China.

Not a profound start to blogging but you have to start somewhere.
